Building on 20 years of OLED industry experience,the founding team of beeOLED has rediscovered an almost forgotten star amongst the display materials: divalent Europium (Eu2+). Due to its near-perfect emission characteristics, Eu2+ had been extensively used as blue dopant in Plasma TV’s in the early 2000’s, however was deemed unfit for OLED use. Leveraging the latest advances in Europium chemistry, beeOLED managed, for the first time ever, to stabilize Eu2+ such that it becomes usable in OLEDs. The fundamental concept is protected by several base patents, solely owned by beeOLED. During the seed phase, beeOLED has validated the concept, building the first, highly efficient, deep-blue OLED based on vapor deposited Eu2+ materials.
